The Vice President of Membership serves as a member of the executive leadership team and provides strategic and operational leadership for ACCC’s membership function, including oversight of growth, retention, engagement strategy, and member value delivery across a national network of cancer programs and practices.
This role will lead the transformation and elevation of the membership function at ACCC, with responsibility for building core infrastructure, strengthening institutional engagement, and aligning membership strategy with the evolving needs of both academic and community-based oncology professionals and across the broader cancer care landscape.
Working in close partnership with executive leadership and cross-functional teams, the Vice President drives the integration membership across education, communications, corporate relations, and program development to ensure a cohesive and high-value member experience.
This role reports directly to the CEO and plays a central role in advancing organizational strategy, growth initiatives, and long-term mission impact.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities listed below represent the primary functions of the role and include, but are not limited to, the following:
Strategic Membership Leadership & Growth
• Develop and execute a multi-year membership growth and engagement strategy aligned with organizational priorities, community cancer program needs, and evolving healthcare industry trends.
• Align membership strategy with broader organizational goals, ensuring relevance to oncology care delivery and ACCC’s mission.
• Establish measurable membership growth, retention, and engagement goals, leveraging data and performance benchmarks to guide decision-making.
• Identify opportunities to enhance member value through innovative programs, resources, networking, and professional development initiatives.
Institutional Membership & Community Engagement
• Lead strategies to expand ACCC’s national network of cancer programs and oncology practices while strengthening long-term relationships with existing member institutions.
• Build and sustain a highly engaged institutional membership model that drives participation across multidisciplinary oncology care teams, including clinicians, administrators, pharmacists, and nurses.
• Promote deeper engagement across ACCC programs, including education, committees, working groups, and national meetings.
• Apply expertise in association membership models to evolve engagement strategies and expand participation across key stakeholder groups.
Member Experience, Value Delivery & Insight Integration
• Ensure membership offerings deliver meaningful, measurable value to cancer programs and multidisciplinary oncology teams.
• Oversee the development and delivery of member services, tools, and resources that support high-quality community cancer care.
• Monitor member feedback, participation data, and industry trends, translating insights into actionable strategies that drive continuous improvement and innovation.
• Strengthen member communication, engagement pathways, and networking opportunities to enhance overall experience and retention.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Organizational Alignment
• Collaborate across Communications, Education, Corporate Development, and Provider Education teams to integrate membership priorities into organizational initiatives.
• Translate member insights into actionable strategies that inform education programs, editorial content, and partnership development.
• Align corporate partnerships and sponsorship opportunities with member needs and organizational priorities in collaboration with development leadership.
• Support marketing and communications strategies to increase member awareness, engagement, and participation.
Membership Operations, Analytics & Performance Management
• Oversee membership operations, including recruitment, retention, engagement tracking, and service delivery.
• Implement and manage performance dashboards and data systems to monitor membership trends, institutional engagement, and program participation.
• Use analytics and engagement metrics to inform strategic decisions, optimize performance, and ensure sustained growth.
• Establish and refine operational processes that support efficient membership management and high-quality service delivery.
External Engagement & Organizational Representation
• Represent ACCC at national conferences, professional meetings, and industry events, serving as a credible and influential ambassador.
• Build relationships with healthcare leaders, oncology administrators, and multidisciplinary care teams to understand emerging needs and position ACCC as a trusted partner.
• Communicate ACCC’s value proposition effectively to external stakeholders, strengthening visibility, credibility, and market presence.
Staff Leadership & Team Development
• Provide strategic leadership and oversight for membership staff responsible for engagement, recruitment, retention, and member services
• Lead performance management, mentoring, workload prioritization, and professional development to build a high-performing team.
• Foster a collaborative, accountable, and results-driven culture aligned with organizational goals.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum ten (10) years in membership-based association/non-profit management (healthcare sector preferred).
- Cross-functional collaboration experience across key departments such as education, marketing, policy, and events, within an association or non-profit setting.
- Demonstrated experience leading membership growth and engagement strategies within a national association or healthcare-related organization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven relationship-building skills with volunteer members and external stakeholders.
- Strategic thinker with a focus on results-driven execution experience.
- Availability for overnight travel (approximately 10-15%).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Association Executive credential and/or Master’s degree (MBA or equivalent graduate degree).
- Fonteva, or similar, membership database expertise
- Experience working with healthcare providers, hospital systems, or oncology programs
- Experience managing institutional or organizational membership models.
- Association or nonprofit leadership and board relations experience.
