We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Director to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all human resources functions. This role is responsible for developing and implementing HR policies, systems, and practices that align with ACI’s mission, values, and strategic goals. The HR Director fosters a positive workplace culture while ensuring regulatory compliance, employee engagement, retention, and professional development. The ideal candidate will be both strategic and hands-on, actively involved in day-to-day HR activities.
Essential Job Functions Include:
Strategic Leadership
Develop, implement, and continuously improve HR policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives to ensure alignment with organizational goals and industry best practices.
Serve as a strategic partner on ACI’s Senior Management Team.
Talent Acquisition and Workforce Planning
Design and lead full-cycle recruitment and selection strategies to attract and retain quality talent.
Develop workforce planning processes to meet current and future organizational needs.
Oversee onboarding programs that integrate employees into the mission and culture of the organization.
Manage the employee offboarding process.
Lead the development, review, and maintenance of accurate job descriptions.
Employee Relations & Engagement
Promote a respectful, supportive, and collaborative work environment.
Provide guidance and resolution on employee relations matters, including performance issues and conflict resolution.
Serve as a trusted advisor and coach to senior leaders and employees, fostering growth, engagement, and high performance across the organization.
Create, maintain, and implement employee engagement initiatives and retention strategies.
Compensation & Benefits
Manage competitive compensation structures; Ensure equitable pay practices by participating in salary surveys and conducting periodic salary benchmarking.
Oversee health insurance benefits administration: provide input on benefit plan design, carrier selection, and contributions, lead the open enrollment process, act as liaison between employees, insurance agent, and carriers to resolve benefit inquiries and issues, maintain vendor relationships, and ensure compliance notices and reporting requirements are met.
Serve as a member of the ACI 403(b) Retirement Plan Committee, partnering with advisors to support and enhance the Plan and employee financial wellbeing initiatives.
Performance Management and Professional Development
Administer and manage the performance review process within ACI’s payroll vendor system, ensuring timely completion; provide guidance to supervisors and employees throughout the review cycle.
Partner with management to assess individual, team, and leadership training and development needs, and design programs that align with ACI’s mission, values, and strategic objectives.
Research, evaluate, and source training resources to support organizational development initiatives.
Support succession planning and growth for current staff.
Compliance and Risk Management
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; regularly monitor policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance is current. Laws and regulations include but are not limited to: EEO1, ACA, FMLA, COBRA, FLSA, ERISA and HIPPA.
Maintain and update employee handbook and ensure all policies, including state-specific, are up to date.
Oversee HR-related audits and ensure timely and accurate reporting requirements are met.
Partner with legal counsel to address employment law and immigration matters, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and mitigating organizational risk.
HR Operations and Systems
Oversee HRIS system and maintain accurate employee records.
Responsible and accountable for departmental forecast and budget including proper allocation of costs.
Establish and monitor HR metrics to assist with decision-making.
Create various reports, business correspondence, presentations, and employee communications.
Work collaboratively towards continuous improvement activities.
Serve on in-house task groups and committees.
Miscellaneous projects as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with ACI’s policies and procedures, and all applicable laws in a professional, consistent manner. The responsibilities related to the HR Director’s direct reports include but are not limited to: training, coaching, and mentoring; evaluating performance for purposes of recommending promotions or other changes in status; rewarding and disciplining; planning, assigning, and directing work; and addressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely manner.
Ensure direct reports follow ACI policies and procedures.
Understand job functions of all direct reports.

Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources; Masters Degree preferred.
12-15 years of hands-on operational expertise across HR functions.
5 years’ experience being in a managerial role.
Familiarity managing a geographically dispersed workforce across multiple states is preferred.
Comprehensive understanding of employment laws and HR best practices.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
Operational experience with HRIS systems is necessary, with UKG experience preferred.
SHRM PHR or SPHR Certification preferred but not required.
Experience in the non-profit sector beneficial.
This position requires the individual to work from ACI headquarters in Farmington Hills, MI.
