Position Summary
Pacific Lumber Inspection Bureau (PLIB) is seeking an Executive Vice President (EVP) to serve as the organization’s second-in-command. The ideal candidate will thrive and grow, gradually sharing and dividing the current duties of the President and will be the leading candidate for President position upon retirement of the current President.
The EVP reports directly to the President and CEO and is responsible for overseeing and directing the internal operations of the Bureau. The EVP works closely with the President and Board of Directors to execute the organization’s mission and vision. The EVP supervises key operational, technical, and administrative staff and supports the President’s focus on operational excellence, compliance, strategic growth, financial sustainability, external relations, and the regulatory engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership: Work with the President to establish and carry out leadership development of Directors and key staff. Work closely with the Directors of Operations, Administration & Finance, and Technical Services to improve the internal operations, administrative and technical activities of the organization, and participate in the hiring, onboarding, and performance review of all staff.
Strategic Planning & Governance: Collaborate with the President and Board of Directors to establish and implement strategic objectives consistent with market changes in PLIB’s operating environment. Support the President in managing PLIB’s relationships with regulatory bodies, industry groups, and governmental agencies. Oversee PLIB participation in industry committees, representing PLIB on committees as appropriate.Serve as a key liaison for internal communications between PLIB staff, the Board of Directors, and member firms.
Financial & Legal Oversight: Assist in preparing the annual budget, ensuring financial sustainability within Board-approved constraints.Work with the Director of Administration and Finance to maintain PLIB’s non-profit tax-exempt status and financial compliance in both the U.S. and Canada, and insure financial integrity by reviewing audits, investments, and operational expenses.Oversee contracts and legal matters, including serving as a contact for corporate legal counsel.
Market & Membership Development: Identify growth opportunities to expand PLIB’s membership and services beyond existing member firms, both domestically and internationally, and develop new services that align with industry changes and needs.Promote the use and recognition of PLIB quality marks across domestic and international markets.
Communication & Education: Maintain strong relationships with key industry partners and stakeholders to enhance PLIB’s reputation and influence. Enhance PLIB’s brand and reach through creative marketing and outreach, including development and distribution of educational materials produced by the Bureau.
Bachelor’s degree in business management, marketing, wood products, engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in industry or association management, with at least experience in executive leadership.
Strong knowledge of business operations, budgeting, financial statements, accreditation processes, and regulatory compliance. Experience in the wood products sector is preferable.
Proven ability to lead teams, manage complex operations, and oversee financial planning.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience engaging with industry stakeholders.
High level of integrity, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
Passport for international travel or ability to obtain one.
Frequent travel within the US, Canada and Europe
Options for hybrid remote schedule available depending on the candidate and circumstances, but some presence in the Federal Way head office is required.
