• Incentive Compensation: Discretionary annual performance incentive up to 5% of salary, contingent on a positive annual review and budget margin

Stewardship – Promote professional development and responsible decision-making for the Society’s and profession’s long-term health POSITION SUMMARY The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief administrative officer of MiSEPS, managing programs, finances, operations, and partnerships. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED provides leadership to advance the Society’s mission, strengthen member engagement, and coordinate advocacy initiatives representing Michigan ophthalmologists and their patients. This is a full-time position requiring dedication, flexibility, and availability for key meetings, annual events, and periodic travel to Lansing and national ophthalmology meetings. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, cooperative, diplomatic, and demonstrates integrity, professionalism, and strong interpersonal skills. Key Responsibilities Administration & Operations • Oversee day-to-day operations, including membership records, billing, collections, and administrative support. • Direct and evaluate the Society’s Assistant when applicable and coordinate tasks effectively. • Work with external consultants (accounting, legal, lobbying) as needed.
Implement and maintain Board-approved policies and procedures, ensuring compliance and documentation. • Prepare annual operating budgets, monitor financial performance, and provide regular financial reports to the Board. Membership & Program Development • Lead membership recruitment, retention, and engagement initiatives, including travel to regional members as needed. • Plan, fund, and execute educational programs, including the 3-day Annual Conference. • Develop communications, public relations, and media campaigns to enhance member value and public awareness. • Support public service initiatives, such as free eye clinics. Strategic Leadership & Governance • Collaborate with the Board and Officers to implement MiSEPS’s mission, strategic plan, and priorities. • Schedule and prepare materials for Board and member meetings, record minutes, and follow up on Board directives. • Recommend committee members, advisors, and policies to support governance and operational excellence. Advocacy & External Relations • Lead legislative and regulatory advocacy efforts in coordination with the Board and lobbying partners. • Represent MiSEPS at state and national ophthalmology and medical society meetings. • Cultivate relationships with AAO, state specialty societies, MSMS, practice partners, sponsors, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in business, public policy, or health administration preferred. • 5–7 years of leadership experience in association management, healthcare, or nonprofit administration. • Experience managing advocacy initiatives and member-based organizations. • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. • High level of professionalism, independence, and organizational acumen.
