ACG OVERVIEW:
ACG Denver (the “Chapter”) is the premier business association in the Rocky Mountain region offering access to key dealmakers and essential resources that help drive middle-market business growth. ACG Denver members include representatives from middle-market companies and private equity, financial, and professional service firms. ACG Denver has over 350 members, hosts a series of 30+ programs and events annually highlighted by its Annual Rocky Mountain Corporate Growth Conference. Our events provide opportunities for professional networking, M&A opportunities, industry knowledge, and thought leadership.
ACG Denver is part of the ACG Global organization. ACG Global was founded in 1954 with the mission to drive middle-market business growth. ACG Global has chapters worldwide with over 14,000 members and serves 90,000 investors, executives, lenders, and advisers to grow middle market companies.
Summary of Position:
The Executive Director (the “ED”) (1) assists the Advisory Board (the “Board”) and its committees in their responsibility for the governance, management, financial stability, growth and operation of the Chapter and (2) manages the day-to-day operations of the Chapter. Currently, the committees of the Chapter are Executive, Membership, Programs, Sponsorship, Annual Rocky Mountain Corporate Growth Conference, Young Professionals Network, Women’s Network and Leadership 20 (collectively, the “Committees”). Is a work from home position but employee must be based in Denver to attend meetings and events.
Reporting Relationships: The ED works closely with the President of the Chapter and the Chairs of the Committees but is ultimately responsible to the ACG West Regional CEO. Currently, the ED is one of two full-time employees of the Chapter. The Board members and Committee chairs are all volunteers. The ED may, with the approval of the Regional CEO and with chapter board approval, hire independent contractors to assist the ED with her/his responsibilities, such as event planning, event logistics, marketing, etc. The Chapter also has many volunteers that assist with a wide variety of functions and tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management:
Work with the Board and the Committees in developing and executing their strategic and tactical plans and provide them with the necessary support and resources to achieve their goals.
Help the Board and the Committees develop project plans and milestone dates to achieve their strategic and tactical plans.
Monitor activities and progress versus the project plans and provide the Board and Committees with reports and analysis on their progress.
Programs and Events:
Overall responsibility for the planning, execution, and success for all programs and events
Work closely with the Chair of the Programs Committee and Chair of the Annual Rocky Mountain Corporate Growth Conference Committee, as appropriate, to ensure the quality of the speakers on interesting and timely topics relevant to the goals and mission of the Chapter
Work closely with the Chair of the Programs Committee to develop a budget for each program/event and track revenue and expenses versus the budget with a focus on profitable programs/events.
Work closely with the Chair of the Annual Rocky Mountain Corporate Growth Conference Committee to develop a budget for the conference and track the revenue and expenses versus the budget with a focus on profitable programs/events.
Ensure that the marketing for all programs and events is done in a timely and effective manner to achieve maximum attendance
Sponsorships:
Work closely with the Chair of the Sponsorship Committee to obtain sponsors for the Chapter and its programs/events and help develop new sponsorship opportunities within existing programs/events and new programs/events.
Lead sponsorship fundraising campaigns each year by proactively reaching out to existing and prospective sponsors to set appointments and secure commitments.
Proactively work with sponsors to ensure that their expectations and needs are being met.
Serve as the primary point of contact with sponsors for any questions or concerns they may have or assistance they may require.
Financial Planning and Management:
Assist the Board in developing a financial model to ensure long-term sustainability, ensure the Chapter is managed in a fiscally responsible manner, and achieves annual profitability.
Work with the Regional CEO, Advisory Board President and the Treasurer in preparing an annual budget.
Monitor actual revenue and expenses versus the budget and recommend adjustments as necessary to ensure achievement of the annual budget goals.
Work with the Treasurer to review monthly financial reports and distribute to the Board.
Process and reconcile all payments and receipts in conjunction with ACG Global accounting services.
Maintain accurate and timely accounting and records for all chapter programs/events in conjunction with ACG Global accounting services and the Treasurer.
Review and negotiate all contracts for services subject to approval by ACG HQ Contract Approval Policy.
Marketing and Communication:
Develop and execute, in conjunction with the Regional Marketing Manager, marketing and communication strategies and tactical plans for the Chapter overall and for all programs/events.
Develop and distribute marketing and communication materials in conjunction with Regional Marketing Coordinator.
Maintain and manage a marketing automation system to improve the effectiveness of all marketing and communication materials.
Promote awareness of the Chapter and participate in networking and community relations activities on behalf of the Chapter.
Administrative:
Overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations and providing administrative support as needed.
Maintain accurate and timely administrative documentation.
Prepare and distribute materials for and participate in meetings of the Board and the Committees.
Liaise with other ACG Chapters and ACG Global to stay informed of opportunities to benefit the Chapter.
Skills, Knowledge, Experience, and Abilities:
College degree strongly preferred.
Proven track record leading and managing an industry or trade association or similar organization, preferably though positive transition and growth.
Success planning, organizing, and marketing multiple programs and events for different audiences with 10 to 800 attendees.
Experience obtaining sponsorships for an organization and its programs and events and helping to develop new sponsorship opportunities.
Financial planning, reporting, and management.
Experience managing independent contractors and a diverse group of volunteers, including working with a volunteer Advisory Board.
Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to deal and interact effectively with people at all levels of an organization, applying mature judgment and exercising tact, discretion, and diplomacy with others.
Ability to balance long-term objectives and activities with day-to-day operations and pressures.
Excellent communication skills: both oral and written, including negotiation skills, public speaking, and presentation skills.
Strong computer knowledge and skills relevant to the foregoing key responsibilities of the ED.
