The Michigan Municipal League (the League) is seeking an experienced non-profit Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. The approximate starting salary range for this position is $85,000 - $90,000 depending on qualifications. The League's Senior Accountant requires a mix of technical accounting skills, analytical abilities, knowledge of accounting principles, and interpersonal competencies.

Review and analyze financial data, identify trends, and create reports.
Present complex financial data clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
Utilize technology to streamline and optimize workflows.
Liaise with Assistant Finance Director and Finance Director to increase efficiencies.
Manage the accounting for a 501c3 Foundation (general ledger, grant accounting 990 assistance, pro forma, etc.).
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, multiple entities, and governing bodies.
Ensure compliance with internal controls and policies.
Prepare for and assist with external and internal audits.
Develop, analyze, and monitor budgets and forecasts.
Coordinate with Assistant Finance Director to execute special projects (dashboards, improved budget tools, GASB/FASB research).
Make recommendations and provide subject matter expertise within areas of specialty
Oversee AP/AR processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency, serving as a mentor and team lead to junior staff.
Perform general ledger maintenance, grants financial management, and other related activities.
Provide input into departmental goal setting process.

About You - Our ideal candidate will have:
Bachelor's degree in accounting.
Previous experience as an accountant or similar role is required. Prior experience in non-profit, governmental, or public sector accounting strongly preferred.
Familiarity with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
Experience in leading and mentoring junior staff.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and FASB standards.
Ability to conceptualize and implement change.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
Ability to live and work in Michigan to support the state the League represents.
