The Society of Defense Financial Management (SDFM) is the non-profit educational and professional organization for persons, military and civilian, involved in the financial management profession who support the Department of Defense (DoD) and U.S. Coast Guard. SDFM promotes the education and training of its members and supports the development and advancement of the profession.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Business Analyst to join our membership association. The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise in membership organizations or associations, system requirements, data management, business intelligence, and project management to optimize our operations and enhance member experiences.
The Business Analyst will facilitate assigned projects by serving as a liaison between users and developers, setting and communicating goals, and evaluating and refining results. This position reports to the VP of Membership and Corporate Partnerships.
This is a hybrid position. There are mandatory office days on Wednesday and one (1) other day during the week.

Duties/Responsibilities
Requirements Gathering and Documentation:
Collaborate with stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document business requirements
Translate business needs into functional specifications to utilize in creating technical solutions to business problems
Create user stories, process flows, and use cases to support system enhancements
Data Management and Analysis:
Manage and analyze data within our Association Management System (AMS called Altai) and Microsoft Dynamics CRM
Develop and maintain data health, ensuring data integrity and consistency across systems
Create and optimize queries, reports, and dashboards to support decision-making
Business Intelligence:
Conduct in-depth analysis of membership, education and certification trends, engagement metrics, and operational KPIs
Develop predictive models to forecast membership, education and certification growth, retention, and revenue.
Present insights and recommendations to leadership to drive strategic initiatives
Past experience developing, managing, or maintaining an appropriate BI technology stack to provide the above insights, including data warehouse or data lake systems, a plus.
Project Management:
Lead cross-functional projects related to system enhancements, data migrations, and process improvements.
Manage project timelines, resources, and stakeholder expectations
Identify and mitigate project risks.
Training and Support:
Develop and deliver training programs for staff on AMS or CRM system
Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for system users
Create and maintain user documentation and standard operating procedures
Maintains current understanding of industry standards, trends, and best practices through industry and other professional networks.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, or related field
3+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, preferably in a membership-based organization
Proficiency in Association Management Systems (AMS) and/or Microsoft Dynamics CRM
Strong skills in data analysis, SQL or other database tools, and business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI)
1 to 2 years experience with project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum)
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Ability to translate complex technical concepts into easy-to-understand language
Certification in Business Analysis (e.g., CBAP, PMI-PBA) is a plus
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software programs.
Organized with great attention to detail.
Excellent management skills with the ability to lead, facilitate, motivate, and organize.
Ability to adapt to change.
