The American Chemistry Council (ACC), a national trade association representing the world’s leading chemical and plastics manufacturers, currently has an opportunity for Associate Director, Energy and Climate for its Regulatory and Scientific division.  ACC represents its members on public policy issues; coordinates the industry’s research and testing programs; and administers Responsible Care®, the industry’s environment, health, safety and security performance improvement initiative. 

This position is responsible for supporting the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) initiatives and regulatory advocacy efforts associated with climate and energy policy activities impacting the chemical industry. This position supports technical projects, advocacy and communications efforts associated with current and emerging energy and climate regulations, legislation and scientific trends at the federal, state and local level. The position will also support management of assigned energy and climate committees, workgroups and/or taskforces, relevant advocacy and policy issues as assigned.  The position will further support the energy, climate and environment team’s work with the internal and external stakeholders, partners and regulatory agencies.  The position reports directly to the Senior Director, Energy, Climate and Environment.

A bachelor’s degree in relevant field (e.g., environmental science, public policy, public health, business management) and five years’ relevant experience in a technical, scientific, legal or policy field are required as well as experience with business, trade, government, political or policy advocacy organization, and a sound understanding of relevant energy and climate regulation and legislation (i.e. Inflation Reduction Act, Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, National Environmental Policy Act), and related policy activities that may impact business of chemistry. A self-starter with the ability to work independently on a variety of projects and prioritize multiple issues, projects, and information requests, excellent writing skills and working knowledge and demonstrated ability to work effectively in Microsoft Office applications, including Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access are a must.
