The State Governmental Affairs department is responsible for planning, developing and executing the Academy’s state legislative, regulatory, and public affairs agenda and analyzing the impact that state legislation and proposed regulations have on the profession of ophthalmology and on ophthalmology patients. This includes as advocating for policies at the state level that preserve the highest standards of safe, medical eye care and improve patient access to quality care, while opposing proposed legislation or regulatory proposals that erode these standards.
The Manager, Surgical Scope Fund develops and implements fundraising strategies for the Academy’s Surgical Scope Fund, to raise money in a two-year cycle. Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining State Governmental Affairs financials and records. Manager also participates in SGA advocacy/strategy planning related to state proposals that threaten quality of surgical care and/or pose a risk to patient safety.
