The AHIMA Foundation seeks an accomplished senior level Independent Contractor (1099) to serve as Interim Director of Programs. This is approximately a three-to-four-month initial engagement with an ideal performance period from mid-July through the end of October. Start and end dates are flexible.
AHIMA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and philanthropic arm of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) dedicated to empowering people with health information literacy to achieve better health outcomes. Founded in 1962, AHIMA Foundation programs, research, and projects help families make informed health decisions, guide evidence-based healthcare system policies and practices, and educate and train aspiring and current health information professionals.
In 2020, the Foundation Board set a new strategic direction for the organization to focus on helping consumers harness the power of health information to manage their health and wellness. The Foundation’s partnership with AHIMA, a 501 (c)(6) professional association, is rooted in a shared vision of a health ecosystem driven by health information that is accessible, equitable, and secure.
AHIMA has chosen to infuse purposeful, transformative investment into the Foundation to this end.
The ideal candidate for the Interim Director of Programs role is someone with:
- Experience in the preparation of government grant proposals.
- The ability to build and grow partnerships that support program implementation.
- Existing industry relationships.
- Strong oral, written, and digital communication skills.
- The ability to excite and inspire potential partners for a cause.
- An interest in working in a fast-paced, flexible, collegial, goal-oriented, and entrepreneurial environment.
- Ability to be resourceful.
- Willingness to roll up their sleeves to drive progress.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK TO BE PERFORMED
- Implement and oversee existing programming underway (two program pilots, research, scholarship program, and consumer education campaign)
- Assess existing programs for potential expansion towards achieving the Foundation’s consumer-centric mission.
- Work collaboratively with Development and Communications Directors on grant proposal development and submissions, including government grant proposals. The interim Program Director will take a lead role in the conceptualization, pitching, and proposal writing.
- Develop and grow partnerships to drive successful implementation and increase market credibility/influence of the Foundation as applicable for existing programs.
- Collaborate with marketing and communications director on consumer education content across channels to reach target audiences.
- Provide thought leadership to Foundation team and select organizational leaders as appropriate on the Foundation’s consumer-focused programmatic agenda and approaches for driving social impact.
DELIVERABLES
- Existing programs are implemented in line with timelines and key milestones.
- Develop high level conceptual plan for potential expansion of existing pilots.
- Provide partnership development strategy for existing programs/pilots.
- Assist with the customization and completion of a minimum of six funding submissions (foundation, corporate, and government), in partnership with the Director of Development.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Master of Public Health (MPH) or related degree preferred.
- At least 10 years of program experience with a proven track record of developing and delivering high-impact national and local programs; federally funded grant program experience, and/or cooperative agreements preferred.
- Health literacy programing experience highly desired; experience with the social determinants of health (SDOH) highly desired.
