POSITION SUMMARY:
America’s Essential Hospitals seeks a communications associate with passion for and demonstrated skill set in writing and editing. This position plays an important role in developing, producing, editing, and distributing content for various communications, including websites, a blog, newsletters, and education and event programming. The communications associate is organized, resourceful, and flexible, with excellent writing skills and a solid background in converting complex information into compelling stories. As a key member of our communications team, the communications associate contributes to high-quality, mission-driven projects that advance the association’s advocacy and business goals and benefit our member hospitals.
The communications associate may work remotely four days a week, coming to the office on Tuesdays and occasionally, as needed, at other times for meetings, events, or projects.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*:

Writing and Editing Support
- Perform original research, report, and write a variety of editorial projects, including, but not limited to, news and feature stories for the association website, blog posts, and education program and event summaries.
- Copy edit, consistent with publishing industry and association styles, a variety of membership, marketing, and education collateral.
- Provide editorial review, fact-checking, and approval of website content contributed by other staff.
- Align web content with team editorial calendar and association strategic plan.
Email Systems Management
- Format and distribute through email marketing software periodic communications to members and other audiences, including weekly and monthly newsletters.
- Coordinate email communications and related website content.
- Manage distribution lists for association email communications and serve as liaison to other departments on email management issues.
- Process customer contact updates as indicated through bounce and other reports generated by email distributions.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR THE COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., journalism, communications, public relations).
- A minimum of three years of writing and editing experience, especially putting complicated information into plain language and telling compelling stories.
- Fluency in Associated Press style.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
- Experience with email campaigns, email marketing software (e.g., Constant Contact) and website content management systems (WordPress preferred).
- Health care policy and association experience preferred.
- Experience producing and editing video a plus.
ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS FOR THE COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE:
- Demonstrated high proficiency in written communications, including ability to present complex information in plain language consistent with internal and external style standards.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with demonstrated ability to prioritize assignments, meet tight deadlines, and regularly report on status.

- Ability to commute to the association’s Washington, D.C., office.
