IPMA-HR was founded in 1906 and is a 501c3 association whose members work in public sector human resource management. The organization, located in Alexandria, Virginia, has an opening for a Marketing/Communications Specialist.
The Marketing/Communications Specialist will report to the Director, Communications and Marketing. The qualified candidate will be someone who takes initiative, has strong written and verbal communication skills, knowledge of basic marketing practices, social media experience, copywriting abilities, project management skills and precise attention to detail. Under the guidance of the Director, Communications and Marketing, the Marketing/Communications Specialist will work across the organization as a whole to implement and support a variety of marketing and communications initiatives for IPMA-HR.
Essential Responsibilities
- Contribute to the planning and implementation of marketing campaigns for membership, annual meeting, assessment products, and educational products across departments to reach target audiences through appropriate channels, including digital and traditional marketing channels.
- Analyze and report on marketing data (campaign results, conversion rates, traffic, and other identified KPIs) to inform future marketing strategies.
- Manage social media plan, calendar, content, and messaging. Work with other departments to determine their needs for messaging.
- Manage content for resources on the IPMA-HR website. Work with other departments, including publications and education, to determine available content. Add new resources to website.
- Write and edit copy for emails, website, and other marketing vehicles. Manage organization email schedule. Recommend, through learning, changes to be made to increase open and clickthrough rates.
Work Environment
Work is regularly performed in a 3-story office environment with no elevator.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time benefited exempt salaried position. Occasional evenings and weekend work may be required. IPMA-HR has a 35-hour work week. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, usual weekday hours 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

- At least 3 years of experience in marketing and/or communications.
- Experience managing social media in an association environment.
- Experience with individual membership associations preferred.
- Knowledge of and/or demonstrated commitment to the issues and best practices of the HR profession and/or public sector preferred.
- Extensive experience with association communications software and programs, (including reporting tools/modules), Informz, Feathr, Adobe, survey software, website CMS, preferably WordPress, Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, etc.).
- Experience with content management is preferred.
- Ability to travel, as required.
