The American Urological Association (AUA), the premier urologic association providing support to the urologic community, is currently searching for a Corporate and Foundation Communications Director position located in our Linthicum, Maryland office. This position is temporarily remote and will have the possibility to telecommute up to 3 days a week.
This position is responsible for developing the strategic direction and leading the overall planning and execution of all external communications activities for the American Urological Association (AUA) and Urology Care Foundation (UCF), including media relations, corporate communications, public outreach, websites and social media. In addition, this position oversees patient education and the William P. Didusch Center for Urologic History.
The individual in this position will:
Develop and implement communications, public relations and patient education strategies and tactics for the AUA and UCF.
Plan and implement communications, media relations, public affairs, web, social media and patient education initiatives and campaigns to members, key stakeholders and the general public.
Serve as a key media contact for fulfilling media inquiries, including triaging and arranging interviews between key members and the media; following-up with press; and building and maintaining relationships with reporters.
Draft and disseminate media messages, releases, advisories, presentations, executive communications and other media materials on behalf of AUA and UCF Board and senior leadership.
Oversee the development and implementation of the Annual Meeting press program.
Oversee the development and implementation of patient education materials

Candidates must provide leadership and have effective strategic thinking skills. It is essential that the individual in this role have strong professional, collaborative, and communication skills; strong creative and attention to detail competencies.
BA or BS in Public Relations, Communications, Business or related field required. Advanced degree or Public Relations/Communications certification preferred. Experience in association or healthcare marketing a plus.
Ten to twelve years’ experience in communications
Five to seven years’ supervisory experience
Experience in developing and implementing communications strategies
Experience in patient education/health care a plus
Ability to effectively plan, organize, prioritize and complete assignments on time, accurately and within budget.
Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, ever changing environment.
