Meeting Professional for small but growing professional association

Be part of a small, dynamic team dedicated to a better Michigan through better water. A small state chapter of an international nonprofit association is seeking a meeting professional who is ready for a challenge. Enjoy a fast-paced work environment, planning two conferences with tradeshows and nearly 40 smaller events each year throughout Michigan while being part of a tight-knit team.  

Like many small companies, we all roll up our sleeves to get the work done. The meeting planner’s responsibilities include scouting, securing, and managing venues, working with volunteers on program development, facilitating the online registration process, and executing events.

Technology plays a vital role in the evolution of our training program; many classes are now virtual or hybrid events. So being comfortable with technology is a must.

The job requires exceptional organizational, communication, and people skills. You will work independently as well as on a team with colleagues and volunteers. You are the staff liaison to two volunteer councils and several volunteer committees.

We’re looking for someone with polish who can perform well under pressure.

This position can be based in either the Grand Rapids or Lansing area. The candidate must have a valid driver’s license, be bondable, and submit to a background check.

The ideal candidate will have nonprofit experience and a CMP credential.  Microsoft Office Suite, Your Membership, and LMS experience is a plus.

Work in Water!

This is a full-time position with paid holidays, paid time off, 401(k), and use of a fuel card. Staff enjoys a flexible work schedule as well as flex time. We are a completely virtual office but this position will have in-person meetings and events required monthly across the state, as we are able during the pandemic. Overnight travel is expected an average of six times each year.

A four-year degree, preferably in hospitality or similar major plus five years of work experience where your primary responsibility was planning meetings, trainings, conferences, and tradeshows.

OR

Ten years of work experience in association event planning where your primary responsibility was planning meetings, continuing education trainings, conferences, and tradeshows on either the association side or the venue side.
