SUMMARY: Working remotely as an independent contractor, the Director for Strategic Initiatives for The Association for Animal Welfare Advancement is responsible for meeting goals through the development, scope management and implementation of project plans and programs. The position drives project/program implementation through the execution of all operational, technical, fiscal, and administrative functions. The current strategic projects include Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Socially Conscious Communities; and Veterinarian recruitment and retention strategies.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of DEI experience. A CAWA (Certified Animal Welfare Administer) or PMP (Project Management Professional) credential preferred but not mandatory. PROJECT DELIVERABLES: Include the following; however, other projects may be requested.
Holds responsibility for creating, implementing, and evaluating project plans, new initiatives, and programs for The Association for Animal Welfare Advancement
Manages the coordination and execution of projects through the entire lifecycle, coordinating consultants, volunteers, supplies and other resources
Coordinates committees and working groups to execute projects critical to implementing Strategic Initiatives by planning of and preparation for meetings, work sessions, and external events including agenda development and recording, compiling, and distributing meeting notes
Provides routine progress reports recapping all project activity within the program, significant milestones, and any conditions which might impact project cost or schedule
Develops a detailed project budget based on historical/industry data and a defined set of budget assumptions
Closely monitors project resource allocations and ensures the appropriate skills and resources are cast to the need
Coordinates business functions of strategic initiatives, including budget development and reconciliation, purchasing, expense reports, training, and other operational logistics
Researches and develops cases of support for grant and/or sponsorship solicitation
Provides project-supporting data compilation and analysis, assuring data validation and accuracy
Identifies, escalates, and resolves issues critical to project success
Contributes to strategic planning, status reporting, budgeting and other assignments as requested
Coordinates and conducts post-implementation reviews of projects with staff and key stakeholders
Responsible for continuous collaboration and communication with internal and external stakeholders
Promotes culture of continuous improvement through research of project management best practices resulting in evolving methodologies including adoption of project management software
Preferred minimum of 3 years in DEI programming as well as familiarity with the animal welfare industry
CAWA and PMP certifications a plus
Well-developed organizational and time management skills
Strong verbal and written communications skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
Professional demeanor that exhibits maturity, diplomacy, integrity, and excellent interpersonal skills
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Remote position; environment determined by contractor. Some travel throughout the year for meetings and/or conferences.
