The Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation (Leadership Foundation) delivers high quality programs that educate and inspire a diverse community of civic leaders to engage in issues critical to the region’s success. The Leadership Foundation, an affiliate organization of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, takes a business-led approach to educate and inspire people who want to make a difference as leaders in our community. Through a portfolio of leadership programs, including Leadership Denver, Access Denver, the Leadership Exchange, Impact Denver, Colorado’s Civic DNA Fellows, the Leadership Alumni Network, and the Colorado Leadership Alliance, the Leadership Foundation seeks to bring leaders from all sectors together to strengthen our region for the future.
THE OPPORTUNITY The Executive Director shall assess content to ensure needs and lived experience of all participants is respected and that all voices are included. This role will respect the political and ideological diversity of our community and create an environment where those perspectives are presented and discussed in an equitable manner. This position will lead by example and demonstrate the Foundation’s Civic DNA of Inclusivity, Collaboration, Shared Vision, Leadership and Responsibility in service to the Leadership Foundation.
The Executive Director is an executive leader, shaping strategic direction and serving a board of directors consisting of executives representing the private, public and nonprofit sectors. This role provides strategic leadership and oversight to the Leadership Foundation and its programs including its partner organization B:CIVIC. Overseeing a staff of seven, the Executive Director serves as a contributing member of the senior leadership team for the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and reports to the President and CEO of the Chamber. Balancing strategic and tactical responsibilities, the Executive Director focuses on the long-term objectives of the organization, representing the Leadership Foundation with multiple constituencies and acting as one of the foremost nonprofit leaders in Colorado.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Maximize and leverage a strong relationship with the 50-person Leadership Foundation Board of Directors and the B:CIVIC Board of Directors, and provide the strategic leadership necessary to assure full Board participation and engagement. Maintain regular contact with and advise the Chair and the other Board officers (Past Chair, Chair-Elect, Secretary and Treasurer).
Plan and organize all board committees, task forces and subject matter advisory resource teams. Manage agendas, suggest topics, provide support to and serve on the Executive Committee of the Foundation. Work with Board members and senior management on developing and executing program vision and strategy.
Serve as a principal spokesperson for the Leadership Foundation in all venues, with a goal to enhance the Leadership Foundation’s overall image and funding relationships.
Represent the Leadership Foundation at appropriate community activities. Serve on boards, commissions, committees, and organizations related to areas that are critical to Leadership Foundation goals and interests.
Lead the organization’s regional efforts through program development and execution.
Establish, maintain, and enhance strategic and diverse partnerships and alliances with donors.
Establish and maintain consistent revenue to fund the Leadership Foundation’s activities and programs.
Solicit and secure individual and corporate sponsorship funds, grant funding, and program revenue. Possess knowledge of earned income as well as philanthropic revenue sources and operate with equal effectiveness in both. Spearhead efforts to build a broader understanding of the value of philanthropy with stakeholders.
Ensure fiscal accountability of resources and manage expenses.
Manage a highly effective and efficient staff and organization. Develop and lead staff in the execution of an annual strategic organizational plan (goals, objectives & metrics for success and scorecard reporting) that will sustain and enhance the organization’s revenue to support the goals of the Leadership Foundation and its affiliates. Develop, mentor and support staff to ensure accountability.
Responsible for engaging community and civic trusteeship through a continuum of leadership programming to include creative vision, execution and relevance of future programming and current offerings: Access Denver, Colorado Experience, Colorado Leadership Alliance (CLA), Annual 9News Civic Leadership Luncheon, TIED (a global diversity leadership roundtable that engages Colorado organizations in a collaborative dialogue about diversity, inclusion and employee engagement), Impact Denver, Leadership Denver, Civic DNA Fellowship and the annual Leadership Exchange trip, and the B:CIVIC organization and its programs.
Work collaboratively with all employees and affiliates of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and represent the Leadership Foundation internally and across functions.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO OUR ORGANIZATION
A minimum of 10 years of progressive management and leadership experience in business, marketing, finance, non-profit management or related field (or equivalent experience).
Demonstrated management ability from prior supervisory experience. Strong experience attracting, developing, managing, and mentoring a diverse staff.
Strategic mindset with demonstrated experience in developing and implementing long-range strategic plans.
Proven track record of success developing, implementing and overseeing complex development programs or initiatives, leadership executive program experience preferred.
Demonstrated success cultivating and maintaining donor, board and community relationships.
Superior written and verbal communication skills with the ability to represent the Leadership Foundation in a wide variety of forums; ability to be the strong “face” of the organization and a compelling public speaker.
Demonstrated experience with managing budgets and evaluating financial statements. Strong commitment to fiscal responsibility.
Demonstrated experience in generating revenue from multiple sources including philanthropic sources.
Ability to work flexible, extended hours, attend meetings off site and travel outside Denver as needed.

Knowledge and understanding of relevant business and program disciplines that would come from serving in a leadership role of an organization, preferably in the Denver Metro or Colorado area.
Demonstrated corporate and fundraising experience with gifts and gift renewals.
