CLIENT ASSOCIATION: American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, AAAAI REPORTS TO: Executive Director, AAAAI DIRECT REPORTS: Senior Media & Communications Manager, AAAAI STATUS: Exempt (Minimum 37.5 hours/week) GENERAL SUMMARY: The Director of Communications oversees and coordinates all staff functions of the AAAAI’s communications team including media and public relations, activity-related promotion and audience generation, branding and design and corporate communications standards consistently articulating the AAAAI’s mission and key messaging. The Director of Communications will work closely with a senior peer group of directors in both the overall management of the AAAAI as well as to serve as a key communications partner on a variety of strategic initiatives to fulfill the AAAAI’s strategic plan. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: - Develop and direct a marketing communications strategy that supports the mission and strategic objectives of the AAAAI. This includes print, web, social media and mainstream media; and it is cross-functioned to internal and external audiences.
- Develop and ensure the implementation of necessary corporate communications standards, communications procedures, policies and regulations for the AAAAI.
- Direct and oversee media relations strategies and tactics including development of appropriate campaigns, creation of press releases and press kits, media spokespeople training, pitching stories and building relationships with members of the media
- Provide high-level writing and communications support with media responses, editorials, and interviews to the President and other senior leadership.
- Oversee the full spectrum of AAAAI’s digital communication outlets including websites, social media and other electronic communication platforms and oversee staff efforts in creation of content and updating of website, development and distribution of electronic newsletters and utilization of other online tools, as needed.
- In close collaboration with the Practice & Policy team members, help to identify opportunities to engage external stakeholders via multiple communications tactics identified as part of the overall communications strategy.
- In close collaboration with the Foundation team members facilitate opportunities to share the Foundation’s mission with members, donors and external stakeholders.
- In close collaboration with the Education team, direct and oversee the branding and key messaging related to our education programs and materials. Includes logo development and overall design of related meeting/program-branded items.
- In close collaboration with the Membership team, help to implement strategy to recruit new members, retain current members and elevate member engagement in AAAAI activities and volunteer opportunities.
- In close collaboration with the AAAAI’s Scientific Journals team, implement a strategy for promotion of the journals.
- Work as part of the team of directors in the overall management of the association.
- Provide oversight, direction and leadership to Communications Team members, monitoring interactions between individual members to ensure efficient use of resources and unity of effort.
- Serve as liaison to appropriate committees, assemblies or task forces within the AAAAI, coordinating activities and providing support as needed to achieve objectives.
