REPORTS TO: Associate Executive Director, Illinois Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics (ICAAP) SUMMARY: The Program Director provides direction and primary support for the ICAAP public health program focused on immunizations. The immunization education program is grant funded and serves as a primary venue of education of physicians and other healthcare professionals on pediatric immunizations, infectious diseases, and related issues in pediatric and family practice offices, hospitals, health systems, county health departments, and other venues throughout Illinois. ICAAP’s immunizations program also provides training opportunities for Chicago and Illinois Vaccines for Children (VFC) providers. Duties include supervising all aspects of grants and contracts associated with the program including development of program and grant deliverables in accordance with funders, leading curriculum and materials development and promotion, securing continuing medical education (CME) and continuing education (CE) credits for trainings while adhering to the requirements of the Illinois State Medical Society (ISMS) and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), facilitating the scheduling and logistic arrangements of programs, developing and monitoring budgets and expenditures, securing funding through the development and management of grant and contract opportunities, and writing monthly, quarterly and year-end reports as required by contracts, funders, and ICAAP. The position also manages ICAAP education activities such as the annual immunizations conference. The position will supervise at least one staff, several consultants, project advisory committees, and will serve as the primary staff contact for ICAAP on immunizations. The director should expect to work with pediatricians, family physicians, and other stakeholders in developing a robust immunization program and lead the organization in reducing disparities and improving immunization rates for children and families throughout Illinois. In addition, the Director serves as the main contact on immunization related issues by serving as a liaison to other groups, responding to member requests, and handles other duties as assigned to support the mission of ICAAP. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director is responsible for and has commensurate authority to accomplish the duties set forth below: Funding: - Secure funding through writing competitive and non-competitive grants according to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and other funding opportunities.
- Supervise execution of awarded grant contracts per submitted applications and work plans, and report progress to funders and ICAAP leaders.
- Develop and manage budgets, contracts, and financial controls in conjunction with ICAAP operations staff.
Curriculum Development: - Develop robust education curricula to educate and address health disparities working in conjunction with physicians and stakeholders including the development, revision, and review of curricula and creation of robust evaluation, needs assessments, and other survey instruments. Curricula will be delivered in person, via webinars utilizing programs such as Zoom or Go-To-Meetings, and online using ICAAP’s learning management system (LMS) which is a Moodle platform.
- Manage all aspects of CME and CE applications and adhere to requirements when delivering education and awarding credit per the requirements of the ISMS and the ACCME.
- Participate in the planning and execution of ICAAP’s annual immunizations conference.
Marketing: - Produce (collect and write articles, edit, work with designer, printer and mailing house) periodic project newsletter articles and immunization-related content for ICAAP communications.
- Develop materials to increase participation in project education and activities to ensure inclusion of a diverse audience.
- Guide development of immunizations social media outreach on FB, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter.
Management - Supervise and manage a diverse team and related consultants and subcontractors.
- Establish and convene regularly ICAAP’s Committee on Immunizations/Project Advisory Committee, project sponsors, recording meeting notes, and following-up on meeting actions.
- Recruit and retain a diverse group of ICAAP members and experts as volunteers, presenters, and participants in ICAAP’s immunizations program and projects as needed.
- Liaise with national AAP, IDPH, CDPH, local/state immunization coalitions, Chicago and Illinois child health coalitions, health care organizations, and advocacy groups. Facilitate chapter members’ involvement in their endeavors including attending meetings to represent ICAAP when determined necessary and appropriate.
- Report regularly to Associate Executive Director, Executive Director, Executive Committee, and project funder(s) as necessary and required.
OTHER/CLERICAL DUTIES: In addition to the above, the Director will: - Prepare correspondence and meeting minutes.
- Work with manager and coordinator to plan and arrange meetings.
- Conduct mailings to membership of pertinent items.
- Maintain project files.
- Perform other duties to assist the Chapter in its daily functions as assigned.
