The American Sociological Association (ASA) invites applications for a Membership and Database Manager. This position is responsible for managing the association’s activities related to membership recruitment and customer service, including management of our database and its integration with our email automation platform. The position provides the opportunity to combine creativity and innovation in outreach and member services with robust database management and analytics.
ASA has a membership of 11,000 sociologists who are scholars, teachers, and practitioners. Its mission is to serve sociologists in their work, advance sociology as a discipline and profession, and promote the contributions and use of sociology to society. Among many other activities, ASA publishes 14 journals and offers a large annual meeting. ASA’s office is in Washington, D.C.
Work collaboratively with the Membership Assistant and staff in other departments to provide a high level of customer service, respond to requests, resolve problems, and answer questions from members.
Work closely with the Deputy Director, Membership Assistant, communications team, and other key staff to develop and produce member recruitment, retention and reclamation campaigns using our email automation platform.
Manage the membership database to ensure accurate and secure data.
Pull lists and provide segmentation of members and prospects for tailored communications.
Collect, analyze and contribute to reporting on membership gains, retention, and engagement.
Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Deputy Director.
Reporting Structure: The Membership and Database Manager reports to the Deputy Director.

Three years of relevant professional experience or equivalent.
Experience with Association Management Systems (proficiency with NOAH/JL Systems a plus).
Experience with membership management and member communications (proficiency with Real Magnet/Higher Logic a plus).
Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills; strong analytical reasoning ability; strong organizational and project management skills.
Strong work ethic; ability to respond quickly to time-sensitive requests from members; ability to effectively manage schedules and deadlines for ongoing initiatives.
Maturity and organizational savvy; ability to work independently and in collaboration with teams; excellent interpersonal skills.
Some familiarity with the higher education sector and social science.
Ability to travel to the association’s annual meeting for one week in August. Note: the 2020 Annual Meeting has been cancelled.
Compensation: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. A full benefits package is provided to all ASA staff members.
