The mission of the National Association of Women Lawyers (NAWL) is to provide leadership, a collective voice, and essential resources to advance women in the legal profession and advocate for the equality of women under the law. Located in Chicago, Illinois - NAWL has been empowering women in the legal profession, cultivating a diverse membership dedicated to equality, mutual support, and collective success since 1899.
NAWL is excited to announce their search for a strategic and visionary leader for the position of Executive Director. With a distinct focus on becoming the premier voice of women in the legal profession, the Executive Director will serve as a catalyst for the continued growth, impact and amplification of the organization. The Executive Director will be invigorated by the opportunity to build upon the historical foundation of the organization to take NAWL to the next level.
In partnership with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will be responsible for the overall management of the organization, providing strategic leadership and oversight of all aspects of NAWL’s operations. As the primary external face and voice of the organization, the Executive Director will lead with passion and ambition to enhance the visibility and prestige of NAWL. The Executive Director will bring foundational knowledge of the legal field, along with the creativity and innovation to develop and deliver forward-thinking organizational strategies in alignment with NAWL’s mission.
A proven leader, the Executive Director will provide the hands-on leadership required to strengthen the foundation and shape the direction of the organization – while preserving NAWL’s historical roots. In partnership with the board, the Executive Director will drive the strategy and change required to become the go-to organization for legal issues impacting women and response on a national scale.
The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of 10 years professional experience, including 5 years in a management position. A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as law, business administration, public policy or non-profit management in required, with Juris Doctorate preferred.
