Job Title: Manager, Member Communications
Reports to: Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President
Job Summary: The Manager, Member Communications will be responsible for researching, aggregating, writing, and publishing critical news and communications designed to engage ASHP members across multiple channels and platforms. The successful candidate will be an outstanding writer and creative thinker with an eye for timely, relevant content and a healthy respect for deadlines. This is a highly strategic and collaborative role and ideal for someone with a proven ability to leverage strategic communications for member engagement and organizational growth.
Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Work in concert with the editorial, communications and marketing staff to develop and manage a global editorial calendar to govern ASHP's multi-channel member communications strategy.
Proactively mine ASHP's rich content landscape, external news sources, and the organization's plethora of subject matter experts to identify topics, issues, news angles, and stories to feed the content pipeline and consistently deliver relevant and newsworthy information to members.
Cultivate effective relationships with key staff and develop a strong understanding of ASHP's priorities in public policy, advocacy, regulatory and legislative affairs to support the timely publication and dissemination of critical updates, comments, opinions and other content to support our members and their practice.
Oversee content and editorial aspects of all ASHP member communications (print and digital) including regular production of daily, weekly and monthly e-Newsletters and onsite management of the daily newspaper at ASHP's Midyear Clinical Meeting each December.
Support the Executive Office and other stakeholders to disseminate priority updates and news to members and other key stakeholders on an as-needed basis.
Write original news and informational pieces as needed to support a robust calendar of proprietary content for member engagement.
Work in collaboration with the marketing and member relations teams to align content strategy with member engagement, recruitment and renewal efforts.
Monitor and analyze KPIs for core member communications activities, providing insights and recommendations to enhance impact.
Maintain a high level of customer service and professionalism.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, New Media, or related field and a minimum of five years of experience working as part of a digital publishing team required.
Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience writing and editing content to inform and engage stakeholders. Association and healthcare experience strongly preferred.
Proven leadership ability in team building, mentoring and managing creative talent (in-house and agencies).
Highly organized project manager who seamlessly marries big-picture perspective with a keen attention to detail. Ability to multitask with overlapping assignments, multiple deadlines, and shifting priorities.
Strong time management, multitasking, organizational and communication skills; ability to meet tight deadlines and make decisive judgments and evaluations.
A team player with a strong customer service orientation: Success at ASHP depends on the ability to organize different teams (internally and externally) around shared goals and ensure the necessary stakeholders are engaged.
Experienced news writer with outstanding editing and verbal communications skills; journalism experience and/or experience in editorial project management and managing writers and editors is required.
Proficiency with marketing automation/email marketing platforms (HigherLogic, MagnetMail or similar) and social media monitoring platforms.
Demonstrated experience leveraging and optimizing digital communications channels and platforms (email, social, blogs, web, online communities) to drive constituent engagement.
Experience managing teams, budgets and large cross-functional stakeholder groups.
