We are the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), an innovative professional medical association located in Darien, IL, a southwest suburb of Chicago. The American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM) is a certification board managed by the AASM. We have an immediate need for an Exams Coordinator to manage administration of sleep medicine examinations offered through the ABSM: the Sleep Medicine In-Training Examination (SMITE) and Registered Sleep Technologist Examination (RST).
The ideal candidate will have at least one year of related medical association experience with excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills. Bonus points if you have experience in examination development and certification. Of equal importance, you will have the ability to comprehend the guidelines set forth for the certification exams and apply that knowledge to successfully serve the needs of our members and applicants.
What you’ll do
Serve as first line of contact for technologists & physicians inquiring about certifications offered by the ABSM.
Oversee administration of the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM); process applications, issue certificates and confirm existing certifications.
Serve as staff liaison to committees/subcommittees. Collaborate with committee chairs to organize and prepare meeting agendas, supporting materials, and monthly assignments (conference calls and in-person meetings).
Oversee administration of the SMITE and RST examinations, including registration, communications with candidates, exam item revisions, compliance with exam blueprints, and maintenance of the exam item bank.
Regular data entry of participant & activity data from multiple ABSM activities.
Prepare and submit the required annual reports to the ABSM Board of Directors.
Prepare, monitor, and maintain the budgets for committees and the ABSM.
Maintenance of the content on the ABSM website, as well as content of the exam applications and handbooks found on the website.
Manage and prepare the documentation to achieve and maintain recognized accreditation standards.
Attend conferences, courses, and meetings as assigned.
Additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Director.
This position requires some travel, which may include weekends.
What we need
Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university or equivalent experience.
Minimum one-year related experience in a nonprofit association
Experience in information management systems, i.e. database maintenance including data collection, compilation and entry
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong interpersonal relationship skills in response to questions from staff and membership
Strong planning and organizational skills with great attention to detail; prior project management experience
Prior association management experience a plus, especially in examination development and certification
