INSA seeks a full-time senior manager to assist in the execution of its communications and policy operations. The ideal candidate would have strong project management experience, exceptional writing and editing skills, and experience developing communications strategy and managing media relations. This is an ideal opportunity for someone seeking access to and understanding of the U.S. intelligence and national security communities.
Primary responsibilities, in support of INSA’s senior management team:
Oversees and manages INSA’s Digital Marketing Manager
Develop a comprehensive organizational strategic communications plan in conjunction with the Digital Marketing Manager
Oversee development of membership, marketing, and policy communications in conjunction with the Digital Marketing Manager, including emails, website content, social media, and policy publications
Assist in website and social media platform management
Write speeches and other remarks for senior INSA leadership
Develop constructive relationships with graphic design and website partners, and other vendors as needed
Support the Vice President for Policy in managing the activities and projects of INSA’s member-driven councils examining intelligence policy issues such as acquisition management, technology and innovation, security clearance reform, cybersecurity, and others
Develop agendas and secure speakers for events on intelligence policy issues, including conferences, roundtables, panel discussions and media events
Work with members and INSA interns to shape, write, research, and edit INSA position papers and other publications
Manage press operations and serve as primary media contact for on-the-record INSA events and the release of INSA publications
Identify strategic media outreach opportunities; draft and pitch press releases
Monitor and catalogue INSA media coverage and manage internal and external dissemination as appropriate
Bachelor’s degree in political science, communications, marketing, journalism or public relations or a similar field of study.
Master’s degree in field relevant to national security or communications a plus.
5-7 years of experience in public relations, media relations, and/or managing policy communications
Excellent writer and editor with demonstrated experience managing projects from brainstorming through writing, editing, and publication
Basic proficiency in WordPress or another content management system
Interest or experience working in a national security-related organization
Highly organized self-starter who can thrive working independently and as part of a team
Proven ability to manage multiple projects on tight deadlines
ADDITIONAL DESIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ATTRIBUTES
Proficiency in Informz or another email marketing platform
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop and InDesign
Familiarity with Salesforce and/or Cvent
Experience managing other team members or interns
Experience in an association or membership organization
