The Society for Human Resource Management is looking for a talented Benefits Specialist to join the Human Resources team based in Alexandria, VA. The Benefits Specialist will be responsible for directly supporting the design, implementation and development of the benefits strategy in alignment with SHRM's Total Rewards Programs and Strategy. The position will be responsible for the administration, operation and reporting of all benefits and wellness programs, while ensuring fairness and compliance. The position will also be tasked with improving employees understanding of SHRM’s rewards policies and practices, and enhancing employee engagement and retention. The position will assist with compensation administration as directed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Administration of all employee benefits and wellness programs; including employee onboarding and annual open enrollment
Researching benefits issues, policies and plans, and provide proactive customer service support to internal and external customers
Collaborating and maintaining accountability with outside vendors
Ensuring compensation and benefits systems are set up and administered accurately and efficiently, with continuous improvement mindset
Supporting the development, maintenance and evaluation of organizational communication vehicles, such as policy changes, training, announcements and newsletters
Assisting with the development of budgets and monitoring of spending against the departmental budget
Supporting the review of benefits plans through data and cost analysis, and project management support
Conducting compensation and benefits compliance reviews to maintain compliance with existing policies, plan documents, state and federal laws
Serving as a Subject Matter Expert for Benefits Systems, and playing a key role in HR systems implementation, maintenance and upgrade;
Leading the implementation and execution of the Wellness goals and programs for the organization
Working with the Manager to develop a Total Reward strategy that is aligned with SHRM's needs and goals, and market trends
Supporting compensation activities including preparing and updating job descriptions and job classifications
Assisting with annual analysis of compensation programs including the review of salary ranges, merit budgets and incentive programs
The position will play a key role in exemplifying the desired culture and philosophies of the organization; while working effectively as a team member within the HR staff to ensure timely and accurate compensation and benefits processes.

Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Human Resources or related field.
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Human Resources including 3 years in Employee Benefits Programs administration.
Experience with data analysis using MS Excel, and vendor relationship management.
Knowledge of employment law and regulations.
Demonstrated ability to design and implement processes or best practices, and effectively work through change.
Experience in Compensation and Total Rewards programs preferred.
The SHRM-CP or SCP certification is required or must be obtained within one year of employment.
