Job Summary Conducts high level research and provides administrative support to the Institute for Science, Technology and Policy staff. Provides assistance as requested to the Medical Director, National Pathology Quality Registry (NPQR); ensures that all Washington office duties are performed.
Special Characteristics The Research & Analytics Associate/Office Manager must have excellent organizational and project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects. Other requirements include the ability to research projects, draft minutes, formulate letters and reports, and produce presentation handouts. The ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve is a must. This position requires handling of confidential information and the ability to meet important deadlines.
Conducts literature reviews and data analysis of laboratory workforce studies
Collaborates with outside medical specialty societies and government entities
Assists the Center for Public Policy with policy related papers and reports
Supports the initiatives of the Choosing Wisely Campaign such as scheduling of meetings, recording of minutes, and management of program activities
Acts as a liaison with staff and outside officials and entities at various policy meetings and briefings
Compiles and organizes data in support of Institute studies and special projects
Researches and completes special projects as assigned (with approval from the Chief Officer) from staff of the Institute
Prepares for meetings: ensures adequate preparation by printing agendas, coordinating meeting logistics, and providing relevant background information. Takes minutes at meetings or conference calls.
Maintains the website for the Center for Public Policy and assists with social media needs.
Prepares PowerPoint slides for Institute presentations.
Oversees the organization of the office of the Chief Officer, Science, Technology and Policy including scheduling meetings, maintaining calendars, and on occasion arranging travel.
Responsible for preparing and overseeing the Washington Office annual budget
Produces expense reports and ensures that reimbursements for the staff of the Institute are issued in a timely manner
Typical Work The ideal candidate will be prepared to handle a wide range of tasks and will be able to work independently with little or no supervision. This person must be exceedingly well organized, flexible and enjoy challenges of diverse people and programs. The ability to interact with staff (at all levels) and members in a fast paced environment, sometimes under pressure, while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality is crucial to this role. Expert level written and verbal communication skills, strong decision- making ability and attention to detail are equally important. The individual in this role must be able to effectively prioritize work responsibilities as needed. Must have the ability to search, read, and interpret peer-reviewed journals and articles using scholarly databases.
Educational Background-Bachelor’s Degree with science, statistics or policy background; or recently graduated Master’s degree preferred
Work Experience-Minimum of 3 years combined work experience is required. Must be able to learn quickly and develop a background and skills in customer service, business writing, meeting minute composition, grammar, and project management
Special Training/Skills-Strong knowledge of word processing, Excel, PowerPoint, business writing, database management, and statistics (SPSS/SAS/STATA) required. Knowledge of the processes and procedures of governing not-for-profit boards is helpful, but not required. Should be competent in developing or refining meeting agendas or letters independently or in collaboration with others.
