The Director of Programs works closely with the Executive Director to ensure that DFI’s organization-wide programs run efficiently; Programs include events (both for DFI and DFI Educational Trust), membership services, and publications. Under general supervision of the Executive Director, ensures seamless team and project management, delivery, quality control and evaluation. In this newly established role, the Director of Programs will set up, implement and train staff on a project management system and manage the organization’s programmatic strategies and growth.
Areas of responsibility include:
Cultivate relationships between staff members with the goal of being deadline driven, instilling teamwork atmosphere and successful outcomes.
Supervise program staff members by providing direction, input and feedback
Liaise with other directors to ensure effective and efficient program delivery
Coordinate the delivery of events, membership services and products (publications) to increase effectiveness and efficiency
Team Management and Development
Develop and implement a project management system to coordinate the multiple schedules and multitude of deadlines involved with the events of both DFI and the Educational Trust
Develop and implement a system to evaluate the skill, experience and professional development needs of all program staff, recommending training or adjustment of responsibilities as necessary to Executive Director
In consultation with the Executive Director, recruit, interview and select well-qualified program staff when needed, potentially including temporary staff or volunteers to assist in meeting program goals
Instill a sense of accountability among team members by modeling tight oversight of individual and organizational performance standards to ensure goals and deadlines are met
Develop and manage program budgets, monitoring and approving budgeted program expenditures
Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
Monitor the progress of projects and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the projects, maintaining the program schedules and delivery deadlines
Review the quality of the work completed with the program staff members on a regular basis to ensure that it meets expected standards
Write reports for Executive Director to deliver to board members quarterly
Manage publications program which includes delivery of event publications, technical publications and maintenance of online publications library
May be called upon to work across organization in programmatic projects, marketing efforts, or fundraising initiatives.
May be called upon to lead ad hoc staff task forces on special projects.
Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from a (4) year college or university in related subject
Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience overseeing multiple projects/programs, preferably in a non-profit association setting
Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Access) and project management software such as MS Project
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Solid organizational skills, time management skills and attention to detail
Experience in meeting/event planning preferred
Fundamental understanding of hotel/conference center contract terms, budgeting and administrative operations
Additional Salary Information: 40 hour week minimum; 11 paid holidays plus 5 days paid time off (PTO) after 6 months and 15 days after 1 year; medical insurance for employee covered 100% and 75% for family members; option to enroll in Simple IRA with up to 3% match.
