The primary responsibilities of the Staff Accountant are to coordinate and organize the appropriate resources for all accounting and finance. This position supports the Director of Finance in carrying out the functions of the Finance/Accounting Department. In addition, this position is responsible for monitoring operational and financial trends, anticipating issues, researching solutions to problems, preparing operational reports and analyses, and making appropriate recommendations to senior management.
Reviews and approves a/p invoices for payment and secures appropriate signatures on checks.
Manages account receivables and makes collections calls as necessary.
Manages and reconciles petty cash.
Manages vendor relationships.
Oversees credit card processing.
Maintain accounting files
Reconciliation of bank statements
Responsible for bank deposits
Reconciling the corporate credit cards
Creates Journal Entries (must have good understanding of debits and credits)
Conducts Month-end close
Completes Balance Sheet Reconciliation
Special projects as requested
Minimum 2-5 years of similar accounting experience. Experience in a not-for-profit association environment preferred but not required.
Proficient in Accounting practices.
Ability to work independently
Highly organized, exceptional attention to detail
Ability to handle multiple projects in varying stages of development and meet deadlines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel; experience with formulas and linking sheets required.
Knowledge of iMIS or other database experience preferred. Proficiency on the Internet.
Experience using Great Plains or other similar financial accounting system is preferred
Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced team oriented environment.
Outgoing, positive and professional attitude
Required to carry and/or lift up to 30lbs and be able to stand for at least an hour at programs
Available for 7:00 a.m. programs and evening receptions, which last until approximately 8:00 p.m.
