The Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau is hiring TWO Sales Managers (Small Meetings – Association & Corporate Markets) to focus on sales development for within their assigned market segment. This role requires execution of all phases of the sales process in addition to some local and national travel. The Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau has a nearly 120 year history of selling and marketing the Detroit region (tri-county) as a destination for meetings, conventions and leisure travel. As a member of the Convention Sales team, you will have the opportunity to influence operations that further the mission of the DMCVB and be part of a company designated as a Top Workplace by the Detroit Free Press in recent years. The ideal candidate will have a degree in hotel, hospitality or marketing/business management and a minimum of 2 years of sales experience in the hotel and/or convention bureau industry. Position Purpose: Responsible for promoting metropolitan Detroit as a destination for meetings representing groups of 99 rooms or less peak nights, by soliciting sales accounts and working incoming leads. This includes site visit coordination and execution for all interested groups.
Periodic travel will be required. This position is accountable for achievement of all critical success measures as defined by the Bureau mission and specific sales goals
Major Job Dimensions: •Accomplish sales goals as established in the DMCVB Marketing Program that will lead to the success of the overall Bureau sales and marketing efforts. •Effectively develops new group business for entire metropolitan area. •Manages assigned market segments and/or accounts with an aggressive sales solicitation program, keeping the database updated on a regular basis while generating new leads and group business for Metropolitan Detroit. •Organize proposals and manage site visits to ensure the highest level of exposure for all areas within the metropolitan area. •On behalf of all convention sales department National Sales Managers, research and generate new leads and group business prospects for Metropolitan Detroit. •Ensures marketing support and involvement in Bureau initiatives while adhering to proper reporting procedures for site visits, and trade shows (if appropriate). •Serves as an integral member of the Sales Department, attending scheduled meetings and playing an active role in the annual marketing plan by contributing marketing ideas and sales related initiatives. •Develop effective relationship with customers, local contacts, Bureau members, and stakeholders resulting in a successful sales effort while maintaining a high level of internal and external customer satisfaction. •Effectively and efficiently manage the specific budget areas that are assigned to produce the highest level of return with every dollar spent by the Bureau and its stakeholders.
Additional Responsibilities: •Maintain a working knowledge of all member facilities, attractions, and services available to customers planning meetings in the Metro area. •Participate in special events hosted by the DMCVB as it pertains to sales accounts and market segments. •Coordinate with Customer Services to effectively serve groups booked by DMCVB. •Work cooperatively with other Bureau personnel and departments. •Complete and submit reports outlined by DOS.
