Founded in 2006, the CAATE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit specialized accreditor serving over 400 professional degree, post-professional degree and post-professional residency programs as the sole accreditor for Athletic Training education. Athletic training encompasses the prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of emergent, acute or chronic injuries and medical conditions. Athletic training is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA), Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as an allied health care profession. The CAATE is recognized as a higher education accrediting body by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
