The Director, Media Relations has primary responsibility for ensuring gaming industry interests and the AGA are positively and routinely positioned in news media. This includes aggressive, proactive engagement with gaming trades, traditional regional and national outlets, and digital outlets that help tell the positive story of gaming; event-specific media relations for AGA’s annual event (Global Gaming Expo [G2E]); identifying new opportunities/angles for positioning that supports advocacy positions; ensuring AGA inclusion in topical news coverage; original content generation and placement; and supporting the development and implementation of comprehensive, paid and organic communication campaigns.
Key areas of responsibility:
Written Materials – drafting press releases, advisories, op-eds, LTEs, talking points, memos, etc.
Media – pitching, proactively building relationships with key outlets and reporters, managing reactive media inquiries and record-setting activities, speaking on background and on the record.
Social Media – growing AGA’s social media presence on existing and new channels
Events – organizing events as part of AGA initiatives
Experience & Education:
Minimum four years of relevant professional experience.
Bachelor’s degree required – preferably in the fields of communications, public relations, or political science.
Experience on Capitol Hill, on a political campaign or working in a fast-paced, campaign- style press shop.
Excellent writing, editing and proofreading abilities
Strong attention to detail
Ability to think creatively and strategically
Ability to build strong collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Ability to work independently without close supervision
Superior project management skills required
Strong familiarity with how to leverage social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.)
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
