The Manager of State Affiliate Relations manages a wide range of support to SNA state affiliates to coordinate communications between the states and SNA, provide information and serve as a resource focal point at Headquarters. Provides timely updates on SNA’s various programs and services, assists state affiliates on governance issues, coordinates meetings with state leaders throughout the year, develops resources and tools, manages awards programs, manages website resources and provides other assistance to the state affiliates, as needed. This position works directly with state leaders including state presidents, presidents-elect and state association executives and staff. Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief of Staff, raises sensitive state issues and challenges and provides support in providing guidance and resources to address them. The position serves as the staff liaison to the Regional Directors on the SNA Board of Directors for their role as liaisons with the states and state conference participation.
State Affiliate Support:
Communicates regularly via email with state presidents, state presidents-elect and state association executives and their staff on SNA updates and other timely information.
Works with Chief Executive Officer and Chief of Staff to coordinate the SNA president and president-elect meeting agendas and materials at both Legislative Action Conference (LAC) and Annual National Conference (ANC).
Coordinates SNAC Chats (quarterly webinars) and provides input to communications staff for SNAC Bites to keep state leaders aware of SNA programs, services and news. Provides analysis on attendance and reach of SNAC Chats and recommendations for how to improve communications to state leaders.
Works with and Membership and Marketing Team to promote membership campaigns when needed and share membership, certificate, and credentialing reports with the states on a monthly basis.
Assists state leaders on routine questions related to governance and association management including development of FAQ for state leaders to reference by topic area.
Alerts the CEO and Chief of Staff regarding any issues of concern with a state affiliate including issues within a state or with SNA national.
Administers the collection of state leadership directories, State Plans of Action, State Delegate Information, state bylaws, proposed bylaw amendments, year-end financials, state dues, and other information as required by the State Affiliation Agreement and needed, annually.
In addition, manages the tracking of states returning information and oversees that state leadership directories are updated and maintained as changes occur throughout the year
Support to Chapter Affiliates:
Plans and coordinates Chapter Leadership Day at ANC.
Develops materials to support local chapter affiliates.
State Affiliate Agreements:
Administers recordkeeping for the State Affiliation Agreement by maintaining files of original signed agreements.
Provides information and follow up to state leaders’ routine questions regarding the Agreement. Refers sensitive and more complex questions and issues to the Chief of Staff and/or the Chief Executive Officer.
Works with the CEO and the Chief of Staff in the planning and implementation of the annual SNA Affiliation Orientation Program for state leaders
Identifies and recommends new or enhanced support through programs and services needed for state leaders. Working with Chief of Staff, develops and implements new services or revised approaches to current ones, within available resources.
Develops and maintains state affiliate materials and information on SNA’s website for state affiliate leaders, state association executives, and Regional Directors.
Creates, collects and maintains library of presentations for national leaders to use at state conferences and updates, as needed, for national leaders.
Updates the SNA Leadership Handbook annually.
Provides information and updates on affiliate services for communications staff for magazine, website and EDNA, as well as the Service Center.
Develops reference materials (manuals and information packets) for use by affiliated local chapter officers and committees.
Manages the promotion and delivery of SNA membership and affiliate services materials to state affiliates for their annual meetings and other meetings.
Oversees the collection of the list of annual state conference dates, locations and contacts as well as coordinating updates on the SNA website. Plans and implements the SAE conference and other SAE meetings and activities.
Coordinates state affiliate surveys and disseminates results.
Regional Directors Support:
Serves as liaison to the SNA Regional Directors and supports their communications and working relationships with state leaders and visits to state conferences.
Provides Regional Directors with state leader directories and updates them on any changes in state leaders or contact information throughout the year.
Coordinates and provides onsite support for Regional Director educational presentations at NLC.
Works with Operations Associate to help coordinate travel to state conferences for Regional Directors and other members of the Board of Directors.
Works with the Regional Directors Chair to plan meeting agendas and produce minutes of meetings with the Regional Directors.
National Leadership Conference (NLC):
Works closely with the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief of Staff, Membership and Professional Development Center staff and the Business Development and Meetings Center staff to plan the conference.
Manages the promotion of NLC and the Future Leaders Program on the SNA website and to state leaders.
Coordinates the planning and implementation of the Future Leaders Program with SNA Past Presidents.
Oversees the collection and vetting of nominations for the Future Leaders Program and communications to the Future Leaders participants.
SNA Awards Programs:
Manages the promotion, nominations and judging for the SNA Awards Programs, including membership awards and state association awards.
Oversee the vetting of nominations and winners and the judging process of the SNA Awards Program at the regional and national levels.
Plans and coordinates the SNA State Awards Ceremony at ANC.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
Three years or more of progressively responsible experience managing and implementing member programs and services in a nonprofit or association, preferably in a membership organization.
Demonstrated experience providing strategic input to new program development and implementing programs and services to support volunteer leadership.
Demonstrated experience working independently to administer program operations.
Work experience providing program customer service in a fast-paced environment with large, varied workloads.
Experience updating websites using a content management system is preferable.
Demonstrated experience developing tools and resources in support of program and services implementation by leaders.
Demonstrated experience working in large data bases, identifying trends from program data, analyzing data and making recommendations.
Demonstrated knowledge of association management and governance practices.
Work experience which demonstrates results utilizing creative “out of the box” thinking.
Ability to think strategically and see the big picture challenges while addressing day to day details of program management.
